god willin and the creek don't rise...

i have two hours.
two hours until i escape from the nuthouse and head into boston to see ray lamontagne and david gray at the bank of america pavilion with lee and kate. !!!!! i could not be more excited.
some tunes in my new ride, a little dinner in the city, music on the waterfront, time with other adult females whom i quite enjoy?!
i think i might be dreaming.

until i realize i haven't finished putting away the groceries, or flipped the laundry, or unloaded & loaded the dishwasher, or watered the garden or flowers or shrubs, or prepped all the meat i bought at the grocery store OR showered and gotten ready. (not like dave cares, and i don't know about you other moms, but i can't leave a mess and then go out and live it up. what's up with that guilt?! i'd leave it any other day for any number of other reasons...)

SO. i shouldn't be sitting here, eh?
except i needed a moment to rest my back so i can handle this oppressive heat and get it DONE. ready set...GO.

and while i'm at it, buy every CD they ever made.

rockin' around the christmas tree

if there's one thing i do know, it's that there's nothing quite like music to get you into the holiday spirit, is there?

elias and i tend to agree that we should be rockin' around the christmas tree whenever possible, singing some dean or some frank or some mariah. we love us some christmas jams. music is like the fifth member of our family.

so i HAVE to ask- what are the CD's that are in your constant rotation in december? i would like one or two to add to our collection, and i need some suggestions!

anyone??

(new to me) music

so i wanted to let you in on the cd's that were my saviors during our road trip to new york state. i love having new music on long trips because it makes them somehow more memorable for me. these were an old list of cd's i wanted. now, with your help, i'm compiling a new one. awesome. so this is what i've had in rotation in my car for the past few weeks:

kenna make sure they see my face. this entire album is fantastic. his music in in the same vein as coldplay, U2, and radiohead, but with splash of electronica and funk. his newest album, which i can wait to obtain, new sacred cow, is produced by chad hugo of the neptunes. looking forward to that one, too. buy this album. it's so good.

wilco sky blue sky. the more i listen, the more i like. and i hear their latest album (wilco, the album) blows this one out of the water. so i think i want that one, too. the voice of lead singer, jeff tweedy, reminds me of ben folds for some reason.

radiohead in rainbows. great album. if you're one of those tech savvy ipod people, download tracks 1, 4, 7, and 8. track 1 is just so good.

mat kearney nothing left to lose. i like mat kearney's voice, and i saw him live one time and really liked his music. but most of the songs on this cd sound the same. heard one, heard 'em all. the "rapping" is not my favorite- especially when he has such a great singing voice. his newer album is supposed to be better- anyone heard it/have it?

ryan adams easy tiger. i LOVE this album. the more and more i listen to it, the more i adore (most of) the songs on it. a couple of them have a bit to much twang for this girl. download tracks 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 (is folky, country-ish), and 12.

robin thicke something else. this album has a lot of soul. every time i listen to it i love it more and more. his cd's are like that. this cd has a catchy r&b throwback feel. i like it better than his last album, actually. download tracks 3, 6, 8, and 9. and if you want to laugh a little about white guys singing r&b, watch this ;)

ray lamontagne gossip in the grain. haven't fit this one into the rotation. he'll work his way in this fall, i'm sure. his music isn't jammin summertime music, so he's gotten back burnered.

black eyed peas the E.N.D.. this one's okay. just okay.

so if you're looking for new music, even if you don't know what you're looking for, there is this website that will help you find similar artists based on bands/cds you like. for example, if you like ben folds, click here to see who else you might like.

and THANK YOU for all your great music suggestions. i'm really looking forward to doing more investigating and listening :)

big mistake. HUGE.

i'm a big music person. i don't know about every new band, and i'm not a snob about what's "good" or "what's not" but i do really just enjoy music. of all types. maybe even country, but i'm not sure on that yet. haven't given it a fair shot. so this is a question for any of you out there who listen to christian music.

i have a pastor's wife confession:

i only own one "christian" CD.

switchfoot. from 2003.

not because i think christian music is bad, but because i'm not sure it's good. i just don't know. and i need you to tell me. i feel like taste in music is as individual as fashion and style or food preferences. to each his own. if you like it, that's all that matters. i just want to know what you like, or what you think i'll like. because i'm not tech savvy, persay, i don't listen to free downloaded music constantly or have a lot of random music on my computer. i don't have an ipod and i don't even know how to download music without, like, getting arrested or something. the only music i stole was off nicks hard drive a while back ;) thanks, nick. but buying CD's is so expensive and, i don't know, old fashioned now or something. clearly i need some help.

here's where you come in. below is a list of some CD's i own or bands/musicians i enjoy (i'm across the board- jazz, hip hop, rock, i'm into whatever) and maybe you could give me some music suggestions?! i'm curious about the christian music arena, but if you're reading and you don't own any christian music either, then you can suggest any new music that you're listening to or just love in general. i'm always looking for suggestions.

yay! i'm excited already!

some of my faves: Adele, John Mayer, Coldplay, Ryan Adams, Kenna, Bright Eyes, Radiohead, James Morrison, Ben Harper, Gomez, Estelle, Rufus Wainwright, Feist, Mat Kearney, Citizen Cope, Kings of Leon, Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, The Fray, Augustana, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Ray LaMontaigne, Regina Spektor, John Legend, Michael Buble, Live, Damian Rice, U2, Harry Connick Jr., Norah Jones, Jason Mraz, Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, The Cranberries, Josh Kelley, RAtM, Beck, Dave Matthews Band, Snow Patrol, Jamie Cullum, Foo Fighters, Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake, MJ in his early days ;)...and the list goes on.

new to me

i love new. new to me. new in the package. new ideas. new thoughts.

and especially new music. i LOVE music. it makes everything better...making dinner, road trips, rainy days, decorating a Christmas tree...you name it.

so today i am in love with the soulful music of adele. she's from the UK, which makes me like her even more. london is cool. it just is. so you should google her if you haven't already heard of her. i'm a mum, so i am not always current. i only aspire to be.

and new rhymes with thirty-two, so a BIG happy birthday to the most amazing man in the entire world. my husband that is. my deep blue sea. davey :) i like him much more than anything new. on the contrary i like him more and more the older he gets. he may be the exception to the "i love new" rule. especially because as he gets older, i see more and more white hairs- stark and beautiful against his jet black hair. be still my heart! just like george clooney. but better. dave does not share my sentiment about the white hair being sexy or desirable. he says they're dead and broken. and i remind him that ALL hair is dead. he doesn't understand. he's just not as wise and cultured as i. someday, my love...

so something old, something new.

what is everyone else loving right now? do tell...
